The original victim in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was a black man named Jacob Blake. The three white men shot by Kyle Rittenhouse were protesting the police shooting of Blake, shot many times in the back while unarmed in his car. Blake was seriously wounded and paralyzed for life. None of the police officers involved in that shooting have ever been charged. All the media coverage in recent days has been about the “not guilty” verdict for vigilante Rittenhouse. The original black victim and the considerable pattern of police disproportionately stopping, abusing, and shooting black men has not been properly focused upon as was the case in nearby Minnesota with George Floyd.
